Are you worried that your dog or cat might have fleas? If so, there are certain things you can check for. If you notice any of the following signs it's important to give your animal a flea bath right away or take him to the groomer immediately.
Signs Your Pet May Have Fleas:
- What looks like brown dust attached to the fur itself. Put the dust into a white paper towel, and see if the "dust" dissolves into red liquid. Fleas excrete digested blood.
- Skin irritation. You may notice flea bites or the area may appear red from excessive scratching or irritation.
- Small, fast-moving tiny brown insects. If your pet has dark hair or fur, check the stomach or groin area where the skin tends to be lighter. It will be easier to spot fleas there.
It's important to take immediate action to rid your pet of flea infestation. Fleas can carry worms and other diseases, which can be transferred to your pet. Ensuring your pet is given a flea bath at the first sign of fleas is the best way to eliminate these pesky insects from continuing to breed. You also need to make sure you clean your house, especially your pet's bedding and any carpets or upholstery your pet might have laid on.
