Should You Get Pet Insurance?

Years ago, most pet owners thought that pet insurance was a wise choice, but with the current economy being so challenging, some are choosing to forgo insurance altogether.
However, even though pet insurance may seem like an unaffordable cost at this time, consider the following:
Treatments that were once only available to humans are now being offered to dogs and cats. From kidney transplants to radiation, veterinarians are able to work wonders with medical procedures. Yet, these procedures can cost thousands of dollars and many pet owners are not prepared to undertake such costs, which is why insurance is valuable.
Just as treatment options have evolved, so too have preventive medicine and screening technologies. However, such screenings can quickly add costs to people's veterinary bills if they do not have pet insurance.
A recent study showed that in 2009, Americans spent $45.4 billion on their pets and that cost is expected to increase over the next few years. With expenses escalating, now is a great time to consider pet insurance so that you are protected financially should something happen to your dog or cat.
