Dogs have been featured in films since they were shown in black and white. A new film, filmed not in color but in black and white, stars a canine that has already taken home one honor and could expect more. Uggie, the canine star of "The Artist," brought home a smaller version of the Palme D'Or from France last year. Now that the film has garnered several Oscar nominations, the canine star is likely to receive more attention from the film community. He is shown in the movie performing tricks and walking on his legs, even saving lives. This trick-performing dog can also be seen in "Water for Elephants"; he won a Golden Collar, a Hollywood honor for animal performers, for both of his latest roles.
Since the director of "The Artist" has credited Uggie with much of the success of the movie worldwide, he was invited to walk the red carpet at many events over the past six months. Despite his overwhelming rise to fame, Uggie's trainer issued a press release this month stating that the dog will be taking a much-needed retirement. Part of Uggie's great success is that he is well-cared for and kept healthy by his owner. If you have a beloved pet, make sure he or she is kept in tip-top shape by making regular visits to your local veterinarian.
