Celebrating Halloween With Your Pet

Halloween can be loads of fun, especially if you have children or you live in a neighborhood with lots of trick-or-treaters. Even though Halloween usually means dressing up, getting candy, costume parties, and carving pumpkins, it doesn't mean our pets have to be left out.

We often don't think about pets around Halloween since it's known for being a kid's holiday. However, your pet can join in on the festivities, and your friends and family will enjoy it too. From taking your dog trick-or-treating, to dressing him up in a doggy costume, there's lots that you can do to include him this Halloween!

Let your dog greet trick-or-treaters.
If you're planning on staying home and passing out candy to trick-or-treaters, why not let your pet dress up and be the center of attention?

You already know that they'll be at the front door welcoming the children each time you answer the door, so letting them brighten the children's spirits will make the night that much more special.

Bring your pet trick-or-treating.
Trick-or-treating is a great way to spend time with your kids and take your pet out for a walk. Whether or not your pet wears a costume, don't forget to bring the leash and waste bags. The last thing you want to do is leave "tricks" for the little guys.

Calming anxious pets.
Some pets get anxious around strangers or costumes. If your pet gets antsy on Halloween due to all the activity, you can play with your pet in another part of the house or in the backyard.

Even if your pet asks for it, don't let him eat candy, which could lead to major digestive problems and a trip to the vet. If your pet has a tendency to bite, be sure to keep him or her away from children. Lastly, always keep a leash on your pet while out on a walk Halloween night.
