4th of July Pet Safety Tips

This Sunday, all Americans will celebrate our nation's liberty and independence. The 4th of July is a great holiday for family and friends, but for those with pets, extra precautions should be taken to ensure optimal safety:
§ The 4th means fireworks and loud noise, which can frighten pets. Scared pets have a way of getting loose from their owners because they are trying to hide from noises. To ensure your pets are safe, make sure they cannot escape your home or yard.
§ While it may be tempting to take your pet with you to parades, park festivities or BBQs, make sure that you keep your pet with you and do not leave it in your car. During hot summer months, the heat can be quite dangerous to pets that are left alone in their owners' vehicles.
§ If you know that your pets get anxious from loud noises or fireworks, give them an item of comfort, like a favorite toy or one of your old t-shirts. Also keep your pets in areas of your home where you can close curtains and shades. In cases where pets are extremely anxious, you may want to schedule a visit with your vet and ask for tranquilizers.
§ Finally, if you plan to take your pet to public areas, make sure that it is wearing a collar with an ID and also kept on a secured leash.
Following these basic tips will ensure that your holiday is not only fun, but also safe for your beloved best friends.
