Tips for Finding the Right Groomer For You

Choosing a groomer for your pet is as equally important as choosing a vet. A bad grooming experience can be very traumatic for the animal, and when conditions in the grooming facility aren’t clean or sanitized it can lead to infection, the spread of disease, and other health issues.
Think of choosing a groomer the same way you would think of choosing a hair stylist for yourself. You want someone who is professional, knows what they’re doing, and makes you feel comfortable. The same can be said for your pet’s groomer. There are plenty of groomers out there, and you are bound to find the right one for you.
If you are having trouble finding a groomer for your pet, here are some helpful tips you can follow to make the process a bit easier:
- Ask for recommendations from friends, family, or co-workers. Personal recommendations are one of the best and easiest ways to find a groomer. A friend wouldn’t tell you to see a groomer unless he himself trusted that groomer.
- Ask your veterinarian for a referral, they are bound to know someone good!
- If you are considering a particular groomer, feel free to visit the facility. Pay attention to how clean the facility is and how it smells. Also, pay attention to how the groomer and his/her assistants interact with the animals.
- If you run into another customer while you’re at the facility, feel free to ask their opinion. If you sense they aren’t completely happy, then maybe you should look elsewhere.
- If your town requires groomers to be licensed, make sure any groomer you are considering has a license.
- Feel free to ask the groomer if they require animals to be vaccinated before they can be groomed. Many groomers do this to reduce the risk of disease spreading between the animals.
When it comes to finding a groomer, the important thing to remember is that if you feel uneasy about a particular groomer, then bring your pet somewhere else. There are plenty of qualified groomers in every town, and eventually you will find one you feel comfortable with.
