Why Micorchip Your Pet?

More and more pet owners are choosing to microchip their pets to ensure their safe return if they get lost or run away. In fact, on average, one out of three pets will get lost at once in their lifetime. While collars and tags are still important, they can easily fall off. Should your pet run away or get lost and is picked up by animal control, if animal control cannot find you they could have your pet euthanized or adopted out to a new family.
For your own peace of mind, you should consider getting your pet microchipped. The process is easy, and it doesn’t cause any pain or discomfort to the animal. The microchip itself is about the size of a grain of rice and contains a tiny computer chip that can last the life of your pet. The chip is inserted between the animal’s shoulder blades under the skin, in a process similar to getting a shot, taking less than a minute to complete. As soon as the chip has been inserted, it can be detected with a handheld device that uses radio waves to pick up the chip’s presence. The animal must be registered with the microchip company so that in the event the chip is scanned, the company can determine who the animal belongs to.
