Keep Your Dog Safe Over the 4th of July

The 4th of July holiday is an exciting time for many families who have plans to attend festivities, parties, and firework displays. However, while the holiday can be a great time of fun, it is important that dog owners be careful and exercise safety throughout the weekend so their pets remain protected.
During the holiday weekend, be sure to:
Keep your dog at home instead of bringing it to firework shows. Fireworks are very loud and can cause dogs to panic or get anxious. This isn't good for you, the other people attending the fireworks, or your dog.
While fireworks are happening, don't leave your dog in your backyard unattended. If it gets nervous, it may try to jump over your fence or find a way out of the yard because it is frightened.
If you plan to attend parades and it is hot outside, you may want to bring your dog with you. However, be sure to keep it in a shady area and bring lots of water for your pet to drink. Dogs shouldn't be in the heat for prolonged periods of time and just like humans, they need to stay cool and hydrated.
Finally, while attending events, be sure to keep your dog on a leash at all times to protect its safety as well as the safety of others.
