Brushing Your Long Haired Cat

If you happen to have a long-haired cat, one of the things you will have to do regularly is brushing its coat. Keeping your cat's coat well-groomed will not only result in less shedding, but a more kempt appearance. If you're new to brushing your pet, consider the following tips:
First, know that it will be easier to brush your cat when it is relaxed. Try to find a time of day when your cat is naturally calm and brush it at this time. Use gentle, slow strokes and be sure to brush against the natural direction of growth, which will remove excess hair.
Second, after you have completed brushing, you may want to use a lint roller to pick up excess hair that is left on your floor or couch. You may also have some cat hair on your clothes which can be removed with the roller quite easily.
Finally, be sure to reward your cat with a treat. This can be a food treat or cat nip. By giving your cat a treat after grooming, it will learn to associate calm behavior during brushing with rewards.
