Grooming

Simply put, grooming is essential to a healthy and happy pet. Regular cleaning and maintenance of your pet's coat, fur, nails, and ears will not only help your pet look and feel great, but it can also ward off infections, skin diseases, and other ailments that might affect your pet's health.

All pet owners should adopt a regular grooming routine, whether that means taking your pet to the groomer every four to eight weeks, or grooming your pet at home. While it's simple to bathe your pet, other aspects of grooming should be left to a professional.

Below are some helpful tips to keep in mind regarding your pet's grooming:

  • Brush and comb your pet's coat at least once a week, maybe even more if your pet has long hair.
  • Check for signs of irritation or parasites. If you notice fleas or ticks, make sure to take your pet gets a flea bath immediately. If you notice dry, red, rashy, or irritated skin, talk to your vet about what shampoos or skin care treatments can help.
  • Shampoo your pet regularly. Pets tend to pick up a lot of dust, dirt, and dander
  • Keep your pet's nails or claws short. If you feel uncomfortable about clipping your pet's nails, your groomer or veterinarian can do it for you.
  • Clean your pet's ears routinely. Unclean ears can lead to more than just an infection, it can lead to other health problems as well. They make solutions you can use to clean your pet's ears that soften wax and dirt for an easy clean.
