Do you have problems with your dog jumping on you, your family, your friends or neighbors? If you said "yes", it is important to correct this behavior. Many people do not know this, but when a dog jumps on a human, it is being disrespectful and asserting its dominance. Even if your dog is small, cute and cuddly, if it is jumping on you, it is trying to dominate, which is not acceptable behavior.
Contrary to many people's belief, dogs do not jump on humans to "greet" them. Instead, they are communicating that they wish to be the alpha and in control. To give space is to give respect in the dog world. If your dog jumps on your or inhabits your space without permission, it is not respecting you.
To correct this behavior, the next time your starts dog jumps on you, take a sideways step forward. This will throw your pet off balance, but it won't hurt it. This will also allow you to claim your space and show your dog that jumping is not tolerated. Keep taking this measure whenever your dog tries to jump and soon it will earn you respect and stop the behavior.
