Snake Feeding Tips

Believe it or not, it is very common for snakes to lose interest in eating food, which is why some snakes can go weeks upon weeks without eating. However, when your pet snake refuses to eat the food that you are offering, it may cause you to panic or think something is wrong. Before you get too frightened, try the following:
- Change your snake's diet. Offering a variety of prey may keep your pet interested in the food that is offered and it may continue to eat.
- If you buy frozen food, make sure that you thaw it before offering it to your snake. You can thaw it at room temperature, but do not put it in water as H2O may remove the prey's smell and cause your snake to lose interest.
- Try to feed your snake at a different time. If you usually offer food in the morning hours, try offering it at night and see if your pet is more responsive.
Should you find that your snake is still refusing to eat, you'll want to schedule an appointment with your local veterinarian to see if there is an underlying cause.
